Erie Canalway Trail (Lockport to Middleport)

An off-road stonedust stage from the “Flight of Five Locks” in central Lockport heading east on the Erie Canalway Trail on the north side of the Erie Canal, passing by farmlands, woods, scenic vistas, and water views of boats and wildlife.

At 19.3 km, this is a solid full-day hike. At an average walking pace you can expect to complete the route in roughly 4 hours and 18 minutes.

As a linear trail, this route has distinct start and end points. Return transport is worth arranging in advance unless you plan to walk back the same way. Look for the ECT trail markings to stay on the official route.

Part of the Local Walking Network (LWN), this trail is ideal for exploring the neighbourhood landscape. It is typically well-known to local walkers and offers an authentic sense of place.
