Exploring the Chiltern Escarpment, Central Chilterns

Views of the Chiltern Escarpment, Aylesbury Vale & PM's country retreat. Pass through Ellesborough & important historical, archaeological & ecological sites, including rare chalk grassland, archetypal Chiltern beech woods & the largest box wood in Britain

Covering 15.8 km, this is a substantial hike requiring a reasonable base fitness. Most walkers complete it in about 3 hours and 31 minutes.

This linear trail moves from one end to the other without looping back. A return journey by transport — or retracing the path — is needed to get back to the start.

Part of the Local Walking Network (LWN), this trail is ideal for exploring the neighbourhood landscape. It is typically well-known to local walkers and offers an authentic sense of place.
