From just below the Mt Cavendish Gondola upper station to the seaside suburb Sumner. Evans Pass and the Godley Head carpark split the trail into approximate thirds, if you want to break a bit off the leg to make it easier to complete in a day.

Covering 17.6 km, this is a substantial hike requiring a reasonable base fitness. Most walkers complete it in about 3 hours and 55 minutes.

This linear trail moves from one end to the other without looping back. A return journey by transport — or retracing the path — is needed to get back to the start. The trail is officially waymarked as C360a, so look out for the trail markers along the way.
