Mooney #12
This trail was originally built to drive cattle to and from summer pastures on the rim and is still used for this purpose. Because of this relationship to ranching, this is a wide, well constructed trail.
Covering 11.2 km, this is a substantial hike requiring a reasonable base fitness. Most walkers complete it in about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
This loop trail is a practical choice for day hikers: you start and end at the same spot, with no shuttle or pick-up required. The trail is officially waymarked as 12, so look out for the trail markers along the way.
This is a Local Walking Network (LWN) trail — a community-level route perfect for exploring the immediate surroundings, popular with locals and visitors alike.
