Putangirua Pinnacles
The Putangirua Pinnacles are a geological formation and a good example of “Badlands” erosion. They are earth pillars or hoodoos located at the head of a valley on the south-west coast of New Zealand's North Island
Covering just 3.6 km, this is a gentle outing perfect for families or beginners. Allow roughly 49 minutes.
With start and finish just a short distance apart, this near-loop trail offers most of the convenience of a circular route with a subtly different final stretch. The trail is officially waymarked as PUTA, so look out for the trail markers along the way.
As a Regional Walking Network (RWN) route, this trail is maintained and waymarked at the regional level. It typically connects towns, villages, and natural highlights across the wider area.
