Kennet and Avon Canal Trail

Rivers linked by a canal. The name refers to the entire navigable length. From Bristol the way is the Avon. The canal is from Bath to Newbury. From there to Reading the way is the Kennet. 53 locks to Summit Pound (150 m asl) and 54 down to Reading.

At 155.0 km, this is a demanding long-distance hike that may be split across multiple days. Experienced hikers typically take around 34 hours and 26 minutes to complete it end-to-end.

As a linear trail, this route has distinct start and end points. Return transport is worth arranging in advance unless you plan to walk back the same way. The trail is officially waymarked as K&A, so look out for the trail markers along the way.
