Northern Crossing links the Ōhau and Waingawa catchments in Tararua Forest Park - one of four classic tramps here - 3 to 5 days - expert route

A 37.2 km long-distance route for dedicated hikers. Total walking time is approximately 8 hours and 15 minutes.

This is a point-to-point route, running from one location to another. Plan ahead for return transport, or consider reversing the route on your way back. The trail is officially waymarked as TarNC, so look out for the trail markers along the way.

This route is part of the National Walking Network (NWN) — a flagship trail maintained to national standards, often following scenic or historically significant corridors.
