Weardale Circular Walk From Chartwell

This beautiful circular walk links Chartwell and Emmetts Garden; passing through the woodland areas of Toys Hill and Hosey Common, as well as the pretty hamlet of French Street. Gentle slopes and occasional uneven terrain with steps. Potential livestock.

Covering 8.9 km, this is a satisfying walk that most reasonably fit hikers will complete in about 1 hour and 58 minutes.

This linear trail moves from one end to the other without looping back. A return journey by transport — or retracing the path — is needed to get back to the start.

As a Local Walking Network (LWN) route, this trail has a strong community character. It serves both regular local walkers and visitors discovering the area for the first time.
