Ambleside to Troutbeck Walk, Windermere

From Ambleside, walk through country lanes, woods & fields. Get views of Windermere, visit Troutbeck village & Townend farmhouse, before returning to Ambleside via a more challenging route over Wansfell Pike with great views over the surrounding fells.

Covering 11.4 km, this is a substantial hike requiring a reasonable base fitness. Most walkers complete it in about 2 hours and 32 minutes.

This linear trail moves from one end to the other without looping back. A return journey by transport — or retracing the path — is needed to get back to the start.
