Putangirua Pinnacles
The Putangirua Pinnacles are a geological formation and a good example of “Badlands” erosion. They are earth pillars or hoodoos located at the head of a valley on the south-west coast of New Zealand's North Island
A compact 3.6 km route ideal for a relaxed morning out. At an easy pace, plan for about 49 minutes.
This route forms a near-complete loop: the start and finish are very close together, so only minimal transport is needed to get back. It combines the convenience of a circular walk with a slightly varied return. The trail is officially waymarked as PUTA, so look out for the trail markers along the way.
As a Regional Walking Network (RWN) route, this trail is maintained and waymarked at the regional level. It typically connects towns, villages, and natural highlights across the wider area.
