Rakiura - southern circuit

Can add Southern Circuit to North West Circuit. Or get a boat to Freshwater or Freds Camp Hut. Southern Circuit is a remote, challenging tramping experience and requires a high level of fitness, good route-finding skills, and backcountry experience.

At 74.5 km, this is a demanding long-distance hike that may be split across multiple days. Experienced hikers typically take around 16 hours and 33 minutes to complete it end-to-end.

As a linear trail, this route has distinct start and end points. Return transport is worth arranging in advance unless you plan to walk back the same way. Look for the Rsc trail markings to stay on the official route.
