Sanctuary to Sea
The Kaiwharawhara Stream is a large system with habitat for short jaw, banded and giant kōkopu and kōaro The route passes through Otari Bush, Churchill Drive and Trelissick Park to the Hutt Road and the entrance to the sea at Te Whanganui-a-Tara.
A 8.7 km half-day trail that offers a balanced outing without demanding too much. Budget around 1 hour and 56 minutes.
This is a point-to-point route, running from one location to another. Plan ahead for return transport, or consider reversing the route on your way back. The trail is officially waymarked as S2S, so look out for the trail markers along the way.
As a Regional Walking Network (RWN) route, this trail is maintained and waymarked at the regional level. It typically connects towns, villages, and natural highlights across the wider area.
